I wake up reading
probably too early - what time of day should one read disastrous news, if ever? I still don’t know.As I move closer to the age of Medicare becoming my health insurance, my mind could go down a rabbit hole of worry. As a self-employed person, health insurance has been an ongoing “ARGH!” I could dwell on healthcare this morning. It would be easy to do, and unfulfilling.
Instead, I ponder what art supplies to take on an upcoming hiking trip?
My dear friend Bernice made a delightful travel watercolor set for me. I absolutely love it. It is quite possible taking only that little kit and a few brushes will do. Yes, it needs tidied up :)
Then, I look at the weather forecast - rain. This will make it harder to hike… a good reason to pack more art supplies!

My mind returns to health insurance worries, then I see a pencil is missing. It is early in the morning, can I figure out which color it is? I can. Red! Leaving health insurance thoughts behind again, I search for the red pencil…
WIN, it is found!

I follow
and her recent mention of Sue Monk Kidd’s book “The Invention of Wings” intrigued me. I absolutely loved the movie “The Secret Life of Bees,” and am embarrassed to say I’ve NOT read any of Sue’s books - except “The Mermaid Chair.”So I got the library book. As I started to read, surprise, then ‘uh-oh.’
Sue writes from the perspective of a slave in part of the book. This fascinates me as I remember literally just reading
share in her new book “Dear Writer” > never write from the perspective of a person of color, if you are not.I briefly research this topic online - there are all kinds of ideas about Sue doing this… then I return to reading. If you want my opinion, maybe I’ll share it later when/if I figure it out.
Lastly, boundaries.
Lately, more than a few people have been mentioning the “self-discovery” program Human Design. Someone I work with in therapy mentioned Human Design a few years back. Since then, I’ve dabbled in reading about myself!
Human Design is a combination of astrology, I Ching, Kabbalah, chakras and quantum physics. You can learn you own chart - with your birthdate, birth time, and city of birth.
Yesterday, I was reading my chart again which declares how important it is:
» that I be asked for opinions, as opposed just giving them unasked. This has come up in my life before. The idea being = if you don’t ask my opinion, and I go ahead and give it, then you don’t do what I suggest, I might be annoyed and definitely can become energetically depleted.
The best path? Save my energy for someone who asks. They may not do what I suggest either, but at least the advice was solicited :)
This makes sense! And, I would like more ease!
Another suggestion that stood out was: just because I am asked to do something doesn’t mean I have to.
So as I’m hiking this week, I’ll be pondering:
Can I feel more grounded and centered with less need to give opinions unless asked?
When someone asks something of me, or I even get an impulse myself to do something, am I in touch with my “No” or “NO!”
May your Sunday include some lovely self-care ~ I’ve been asking myself a lot lately:
“Amy, what is the most loving thing you can do for yourself right now?”
Maybe you can insert your name and ask yourself this too!
Sincerely, Amy
P.S. I was happy to see this rock and message on a walk last week. Maybe it’s something we both need to remember - whether we have good health insurance or not 😭😂🤩
